Pet leopards, Tiffany tiaras, free-run caviar–it seems everything costs more these days. But fear not lovelies, just to prove you can still be fabulous on a budget this week’s challenge is all about finding something precious for under a dollar.
Item 1: Alaska Moose Cribbage Board
- Denise’s Price: .50
- Retail Price: $32.99
- Source: Como Lake United Church
I thought this carved moose cribbage board was so cute especially the expression and eye. It has so much character. The stopper pulls out and the pegs are stored there. I don’t play cribbage but I am considering the idea of adding some hooks to make it a key/dog leash holder. That way I would get to see it all the time and it would be practical (hello Catherina!).
Item 2: Baby Shoes
- Janet’s Price: .50
- Retail Price: $30
- Source: Ridge Meadows Hospice Society Thrift Store
Despite what many of you might think, thrifting is not always as glamorous as it seems.
My mom was the first one to find these adorable little sneakers. She had pined after this brand at the local over-priced children’s boutique and was pretty stoked to find them in perfect condition at such a great price.
“Aren’t they sweet?” she said, handing the to me.
Peering into the interior, I noticed something rolling around on the bottom. “Oh wow,” I said picking up one of the tiny brown objects. “That is sweet: they even come with chocolate sprinkles.”
My mom frowned and leaned in for a closer look. “Those aren’t chocolate,” she said.
Some people might have put the shoes back, but when you see a deal this good, there is no going back.
Does my baby girl have feet that now smell a little like mouse poo? Maybe.
Does she look hella adorable anyway? You bet.
And that, my dears, is what it’s all about.
